Sarasota County buses — a good deal for most; a GREAT deal for some …
At 75 cents a ride — almost a third of what folks pay in many other parts of the country — Sarasota County Transit Authority (SCAT) offers local folks one of the few good deals they get in this ever-more-expensive town.
And the fare used to be even lower. Up until fall of 2007, the regular one-way bus fare was only 50 cents.
Of course, the fare is even lower than that if you’re a County employee … in that case, it’s a completely free ride. (more…)
The downside of seeking … and speaking … the truth
I’ve always prided myself on being a truth-seeker, if not always a truth-speaker. I’ve written about truth and lies and integrity to the point of possible tedium for some of my readers, and to the certain fatigue of some of my friends and family who must, I’m sure at times, find my mini-obsession to be alternatingly, perhaps aggravatingly, naïve and grandiose. MC Coolidge in today’s Sarasota Herald Tribune
My hometown newspaper — the Sarasota Herald Tribune — picked up a piece I wrote about the connection between having a manicure and losing one’s home. I always appreciate appearing in one of the local papers, and the Herald-Trib is the “big daily” in town; nice of them to include my work. Fingers crossed maybe someday they’ll consider a regular gig for me in their pages … hey, I can dream, can’t I?
You may have already read the piece in my blog, or picked up the paper today, but if not and you want to check it out, here’s the link:
