Lunar love affair … do NOT miss tonight’s luscious Wolf Moon
I admit it: I’m hopelessly besotted with the moon. The moon, in all its phases, makes me feel safe and secure and loved and a little bit sexy and wild, but most importantly, it makes me feel like I belong where ever I am that the moonbeams are falling. Of course, that is all times a gazillion when that baby is full and staring down at me from on high like a lover about to swoop in for the swoon. (more…)
Sarasota … definitely not a Spike Lee Joint
A year ago … just about this time … I attended a press conference to interview the filmmaker Spike Lee and also attended his talk that night at the Van Wezel … here’s my story and I think it’s still relevant. (more…)
Seriously seductive …
Here’s an exerpt from an article I wrote for Sarasota Downtown & Beyond … about Maison Blanche … a restaurant on Longboat Key. You can read the full piece in the January issue of that magazine, on newstands now. If you go, make sure you take your A+ game. This is no place for sophomores in the arena of seduction. (more…)
All Faiths feedback … finally!
WOW! WOW! WOW!
Um, that’s kind of — almost — all I can say.
MC Reality Online readers dug deep, counted coin, wrote checks, and typed in credit card numbers to the tune of … $1,943 in collective donations to All Faiths Food Bank to help feed the hungry in our community. (more…)
Caught on film … er, on camera
I’m probably the world’s WORST photographer … I’ve been known to photograph people’s feet when I was aiming at their heads! Anyway, here’s a photo I took of myself that features my little precious cat, Einstein. I took it late late on New Year’s Eve (basically New Year’s Day) and at least she doesn’t look terrified — only half-asleep! I’m pretty sure Beethoven’s Ode to Joy was blaring in the background and she probably was wondering “what fresh hell is this?” to quote Virginia!
But if you want to see REALLY fabulous photography, especially of GORGEOUS Paris, France and not-too-shabby Sarasota, Florida — visit http://www.chriscorizziphotography.com/. Be sure to be patient while the site opens (you have to click to enter) and then just look up in the upper left hand corner where it says “Gallery” and check out his work. It’s phenomenal. At least in my barely-can-photograph-a-cat-late-at-night humble opinion!
Presidential PDA … in the last days of Bush-bashing
Well, I’d like to think I never bashed Bush for anything he didn’t truly warrant … . Here’s an example — a column I wrote in July 2006 after his mal apropos back-rubbing at the G8 Summit.
———————
By now, we all know that George W. Bush spent a few seconds giving an unsolicited and evidently highly uncomfortable “back rub” to German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the recent G-8 Summit.
Some people are calling his action just a friendly “rub” among world leaders. No harm, no foul. (more…)
Labradoodles love books too!
Was so much fun being at Circle Books on St. Armands Circle yesterday afternoon. Big thanks to all the nice folks who stopped by to say hello or to buy a copy of my book, Sideways in Sarasota!
It was a gorgeous day; I got to sit outside and people watch and meet lots of nice people, many of whom were accompanied by dogs. One very cute and cuddly Labradoodle dog (and hey, the owner was pretty cute too!) spent quite a bit of time on a bench in front of the store and he was adorable — if I’d had half this dog’s mojo I probably would have sold boxes of books! People could hardly resist stopping to pet him and ooh and ahh over him. The Labradoodle was clearly a book lover as evidenced by his decision to rest his paws near my table … lucky me!
Circle Books is going to continue to carry my book; it’s in the Sarasota section — which I really appreciate, and they invited me back for another signing in March.
Thanks again to everyone who expressed interest in the signing!
My hot date for New Year’s: life!
This time of year, it’s not unusual to find yourself spending more than a little time navel-gazing, head-scratching, and tossing back an extra glass of Cab in pursuit of the answers to the mysteries of life. It’s easy, in the hustle-bustle of gift-giving and party-going, to find yourself wondering at odd moments, “Is this all there is?”
And New Year’s Eve, suffering from the weight of the philosophical import of one year ending and another beginning, is one night I don’t think anyone really wants to face that question alone. (more…)
Santas — yes, that’s plural! — visit Sarasota!
Yesterday, throughout the day, I was visited by many Santas — dropping off messages via email, phone calls, blog postings. Everyday Santas from the lower 48 who’d read yesterday’s Dear Santa column and who had one overriding message — MC, you do believe! … maybe not in Santa, but in yourself and in people … otherwise, many of them pointed out, you wouldn’t be writing and sharing your thoughts in the first place.
And you know what? Maybe they’re right!
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
Dear Santa
Dear Santa,
I don’t think I ever really believed in you. Sorry. If I did, I’ve long since forgotten.
But, if I did believe in you way back in the day, who could have blamed me?
After all, what do little girls believe in? Fairy tales, knights in shining armor, glass slippers, cuddly kittens, Daddies who love them, and good grief, on occasion, even unicorns.
Santa wouldn’t really have been much of a stretch. (more…)
