Sarasota’s New Mayor!

Hey, I’m psyched to have Kelly Kirschner as Sarasota’s new mayor.

He seems like a bright, sincere, informed, and concerned city commissioner and I’ve got a feeling he’ll rock as Mayor. I know some of the stuff is just ceremonial, but I think someone like Kelly will be good for the city, its image, and its sense of well-being.

I was fortunate enough to have Kelly introduce me at my first book reading ever — when my book Sideways in Sarasota came out in 2008, he made the introduction to my reading event at Sarasota News & Books. I think he was Vice-Mayor back then … guess I’ll have to hurry up on my next book and hopefully have the same honor again while he’s Mayor … .

Good luck, Mr. Mayor!

Coco loco for her birthday

So last night, after I brought Einstein in from spider-watching outside on the porch, I came inside and fell asleep on the couch. When I woke up around 2:45 a.m., there was a very loud noise, a vibrational kind of motor sound. (more…)

A Boomer-licious birthday

If walks were presents, then Boomerang must have a birthday everyday — because he always gets at least one walk a day, and today — on his real birthday, he’s already had two walks and it’s only a bit past noon. (more…)

Home is where you make it and other musings on Einstein’s birthday

Today is Einstein’s birthday — my cat, Einstein, that is. She and I stayed up very late last night celebrating (yes, while Coco and Boomerang were slumbering) by standing outside on the screened in porch, mesmerized by a spider that has built a GIGANTIC web very close to a motion-sensor outdoor light.

Gotta Get to Gecko’s! Today at 3 p.m.!

Hey, a new restaurant is opening up today at 3 p.m., on Hillview Street (not too far from the 5 o’clock club) in Southside Village– Gecko’s Grill and Pub. You may already know about this locally-based chain that-totally-does-not-feel-like-a-chain restaurant — they’ve got other Gecko’s down in the Landings, Bradenton, and other locations in and around Sarasota. Coward’s wish

The darkening
Comes
Whether
We will
Have it or not.

Beckons us
To come along

Brushes light
Aside with right
And falls
More quickly
Than we ever
Think
It will.

In night, then,
Every wish
A prayer
For conscience deep,

Or Hamlet’s sleep.

Smooth moves at the Sarasota County Fair

Hey, has anyone seen the Bird/Magic documentary on HBO? It’s so interesting. I’m only thinking about that because I’m thinking about dunking … and I thought, up until last Friday, that dunking only occurred in basketball.

Little did I know there’s dunking in baseball too. But I digress a bit.

Here’s the story … (more…)

Back in the Land of (Online) Living!

Whew!!!!

The “cable guy” just left a little while ago and my Internet connection is now THANK GOD back in action. I was so happy I almost kissed the guy. I mean, c’mon, he was from Jersey, had the accent down, and pretty much saved my sanity and my business (which is mostly done through email).

We shook hands instead.

Okay, give me a little while to catch up with work and then I’ll catch up with my blog buds.
