Don’t miss “Best of Sarasota” Magazine party — next Tuesday

If you read my blog you know I’m not a big one for the party circuit here in Sarasota. But there’s one party I’m not missing this season and that’s next Tuesday’s (April 26) relaxed, reggae-infused, Sarasota Magazine “Best of Sarasota” blow-out by the bay … at beautiful, lush, Selby Gardens (one of my fave places in town). Fun on St. Armands

Thanks to everyone who came out to St. Armands Circle on Sunday to say hello, meet me for the first time, or buy a copy of my book (in some cases all three!) at Circle Books. It was so fun — I LOVE being in locally-owned, old-fashioned bookstores where the guys and gals behind the counter know the books on their shelves and can recommend cool reads to customers. (more…)

Signing Sideways in Sarasota

Well, actually, I’ll sign straight-ways … copies of my book, Sideways in Sarasota, that is.sideways-frt1

I’m doing a book signing event at Circle Books Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm. Swing by if you’d like to buy a copy of my book — which is a collection of newspaper columns about everything from dating, to not dating (married men!), to getting older, to blue crabs swimming in the waterways of Sarasota, to political stuff and social commentary. It’s all there.

Circle Books is located at 478 John Ringling Boulevard on St. Armands Circle. Coming across the bridge toward the Circle, it’s basically on your left almost right across from Foxy Lady, I think. Which is a good thing, because that way you can avoid the traffic at the roundabout a couple of blocks further down.

Even if you don’t want the book, c’mon out and say hello!

MC on Panel Discussion tonight — Men, Women & Relationships

Intellectual … interpersonal … and it’s FREE! Tonight, from 5 to 7 p.m., I’ll be participating in a panel discussion with Dr. Larry Thompson, President of Ringling College of Art and Design, Dr. Nancy Schlossberg, noted professor of psychology and book author, Dr. Jon Yenari, a practicing physician and Assistant Professor at FSU Medical School, and I believe, the Hon. Larry Egar, Sarasota Public Defender. There is no cost to attend.

We’ll be talking about “Men, Women & Relationships” — issues of power, balance, connecting, changes from generation to generation, moderated by Dr. Willa Bernhard, former instructor at Cornell University Medical School. As usual, I’m the low woman on the totem pole in terms of bona fides, but I’ve got plenty to say about the subject!

The panel is convened for the 4th Annual Frances Kraaymes Lecture and fundraising event put on by the Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota.

Call 941.366.1700 for tickets or show up!

The Women’s Resource Center, 340 S. Tuttle Avenue, Sarasota.

Civility in an Uncivil World … MC Chats it Up

On Tuesday, February 22, 6:30 p.m., I’ll be giving a short talk at 1350 Main Street (Club Room — sixth floor) on “Civility in an Uncivil World.” It’s a good chance to openly dialogue on something we all seem to agree on — the need for more civility — but which we often find difficult to act on.

Come on down! Seriously!

Florida Veterans for Common Sense President, Gene Jones, and board member, Dennis Plews, vetswill be on the Rob Lorei radio show (WMNF 88.5 FM) this morning, January 24, 2011 at 10:05 AM.

The discussion will be about obtaining Veterans Diversion Courts in Florida, and the group’s Resolution to Withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan.

It’s a call in program as well — so I believe you can ask questions or make comments on air by calling 813.239.9663 or perhaps by emailing to dj@wmnf.org.
